How can I join the Auckland Chevra Kadisha & Benevolent Society
Apply online by clicking on the button below. Alternatively, download the PDF application form and once completed please scan and mail it to secretary@chevra.org.nz or post it to our postal address.
Your membership will be assessed for eligibility and if all is in order, and you will be notified shortly thereafter together with an invoice for the appropriate fee. Please don’t send money with your application form.
If you are a member of the Auckland Hebrew Congregation (AHC), you are automatically eligible for membership of the Chevra.
If you are not a member of the AHC, please include any additional information which will help us determine halacha (i.e., that you are Jewish). Examples include birth certificates, Ketubah (marriage certificates), letter from previous Rabbi etc.

What are the benefits of membership?
Belonging to the Chevra ensures that when (and unfortunately this is a ‘when’ not an ‘if’) our services are required, they are done so free of charge.
Benevolence:
- Visits to the elderly and unwell.
- Benevolence and financial assistance.
- Cemetery and plot management.
- Education.
Bereavement and burial assistance:
- Arranging Levaya (funeral).
- Performing Tahara.
- Liasing with funeral director.
- Reduced funeral charges.
- Organising Minyan.
- Organising headstone consecration and service.
Note that the funeral directors charges and cemetery costs (including plot if not prepurchased) are additional, as are any costs levied by the Auckland Hebrew Congregation.
For non-members please note that we need in all cases proof of Jewish identity enabling us to proceed with a Jewish funeral. These services are charged (costs available on request).
If you are currently a member, we’d like to thank you for your support. If you aren’t yet a member, please consider joining. In doing so, you will be helping to ensure that these vital services can continue.
Am I eligible for membership?
If I am a member of the AHC does this mean I also belong to the Chevra?
No, the two organisations are separate and you are encouraged to be a member of both.
